Memories

Originally written 4/15/26

I volunteered to be a “fun” mom tomorrow and participate in “Whose mom is it?” During primary. There will be four moms with bags on our heads and we will answer questions and the kids will have to guess who it is. Problem is the questions are so hard! I’ll paste them here and practice my answers.

What’s your “mom superpower” (besides finding lost things)?

I think maybe filling out paperwork? I excel at that.

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever said as a mom?

Probably “no more licking your sister’s feet.”

How long can you hide in the bathroom before someone notices?

I think 15 minutes before they start wondering where I’m at but a solid hour till they find me.

What’s your most-used mom phrase?

I don’t know. Maybe “Do it yourself?”

Have you ever eaten candy in secret so you didn’t have to share?

Of course.

🍕 Everyday Mom Life Humor

What’s your go-to “I don’t feel like cooking” dinner?

Chicken Alfredo. Or beans and rice.

What chore do you pretend not to see?

Laundry.

What’s something you swore you’d never say as a mom… but now do?

Not sure. Maybe “That’s too much sugar!”

What’s your survival strategy for long church meetings or car rides?

This is one of the hardest. Picking at my nails?

🤪 “Real Life” Confessions

Have you ever hidden snacks from your kids? Where?

Obviously. Cabinet above the oven.

What’s the most ridiculous argument you’ve settled?

When one child wants to sit on the trampoline and not bounce and the other wants to bounce on the trampoline. Ridiculous

What’s your “I deserve an award for this” mom moment?

Staying with a sick kid all night because of how often they were puking.

What’s one thing your kids do that secretly makes you laugh?

Take over bedtime

What’s your favorite “mom win” moment?

When my kids get along and want to hang out with me too.

What’s something your child said that you’ll never forget?

I forgot. I think I have the memory of a goldfish.

What’s your favorite way to relax (if that ever happens)?

Listen to a book and play solitaire

What’s your favorite calling you’ve ever had?

YW camp director

How many kids do you have in this primary?

1.

I came to my blog to see if I could find any old memories. Every post made me smile. I love you all so much. I wish I recorded every day.

Like Monday of this week. We took a bag of marshmallows to the park and had our scripture study around the camp fire. Dad and I read while you girls roasted your mallows. We did funny voices. Afterwords we just sat and talked and sometimes broke out into song. It felt like magic. You girls are the greatest.

Kaybree is so fun and beautiful and just fun to hang out with. She’s dramatic in the best way and knows exactly what to do to be the best sister (when she wants to be!) she’s also doing great at piano and tumbling. When she decides she likes someone, they fall in love with her.

Eisley is so witty and funny. I think just about every leader she has interacted with at church has been sure to tell me how funny she is. She always has been that way! It just comes naturally. Now she is becoming a talented volleyball player which is really fun too!

Aspen is a sweetheart. She can be shy and a little timid. So many times she will walk into a party, see kids being crazy and say “I don’t want to go in there.” But eventually she warms up and when she does she makes friends easily and all the adults love how sweet and calm she is. She is ready for bed at 8 most nights and she will put herself to bed if I don’t do it.

My biggest challenge

I’m a writer by trade. I’ve always wanted to be a writer. I love to put my feelings into words. Yet, in the last month, I’ve been having a very difficult time vocalizing what’s happening in my life. It’s not because it’s been sad or difficult or anything like that. It’s mostly because there is someone new in my life who I care very deeply for who I feel this deep need to protect. I want to protect his identity, his story, his life. I don’t want to overstep any boundaries or crush any trust. I recognize the life he has lived has not been easy and so I tread lightly on this relationship we’ve built. But honestly—it’s a fantastic relationship. He’s an amazing kid. I’ve been asked to write a blog post for an organization that helps recruit foster parents about the first few weeks of being a foster parent. I’m having difficulty deciding what to write. I feel like anything I write about my case probably won’t apply to their case so it’s not very helpful. I keep writing drafts and then...

Kaybree is 8! Why does time go by so quickly? Even Kaybree thinks it went by too fast. Kaybree, you are amazing. You are a natural caretaker to your sisters. They don't always appreciate it but I do. You know just what to do to make Aspen laugh and you have no problem carrying her around. You never complain when she steals your snacks or makes a mess of whatever you were playing with. Just this morning I was sitting outside with Aspen and you came out with a piece of fruit leather you were eating for breakfast. As soon as Aspen saw you she got a huge grin and reached her hand out for your food and without a word, you gave it to her. You love dressing up and doing your hair. You've been letting it grow out for almost a year now and it's half way down your back, bright blonde and carefully brushed every day by you. Your room is spotless 90% of the time, with the exception of when you let Eisley or Aspen play in there and then you stay up all night cleaning it. You a...

Careers

"So I've got a friend, who I met at Frys. He's an older guy. He's got a car he wants to give me and soon he's starting a business so when I'm 18 and a half or 19 I think I'm going to move out and move in with him and work for him." "Doing what?" "I don't really know but he's going to have this business." "OK. Well, good luck with that. Get it in writing and get a title for the car." I walked away just shaking my head. Silently I thought "At least he didn't tell me he's going to become a rapper. He might as well though... A couple hours later I talked with him again. "OK, so I've been texting him and finding out more about this job." "OK." "So he's going to be a rapper. And he says we'll find something for me to do, something I'm good at. Something that will make me $1,000 a day and I can probably start doing it from home--maybe finding new beats online....
