Summer time

This summer is flying by! I've been taking Kaybree to the same sitter every day since 10 weeks old when I went back to work, Shaunelle Eyestone. You are their 5th kid. But with four kids of her own home all summer and a new baby coming along Shaunelle asked to go to part time this summer. Luckily we have awesome family near by willing to help me out and watch you girls!

Grandma Bonnie has been taking you two days a week and says it's the best part of her week. She loves it! She's a substitute teacher during the school year so she has the summer off. She's so sweet to watch you both for free. It's also giving you a chance to get to know John better as Bonnie asks him to help out each day. He's learning more about babies and you're opening up to him more. It's sweet to see.

Fridays Aunt Brittany takes the two of you for free. Her kids basically just spoil you both all day. They argue over whose turn it is to hold Eisley and Kaybree basically becomes the ruler of whatever place she is in. They love you girls! Kaybree has ended up spending the night there almost once a week. We take you there for swimming lessons with Brittany and by the time they are over you just want to sit in her lap, play with her phone and eat fruit snacks and she lets you because she loves you and then you want to do it all night long--so you do.
I love that you get so excited to see them and spend time with them. You don't even miss me when I'm not there! You're more excited to see Lexis than me most of the time. She's your best bud.

Brittany has been awesome to do swimming lessons for free too. Kaybree, you were not a fan of the water at the beginning of summer. You would step onto the step and play for two seconds and then leave. You were so not interested. Now you hop right in, grab a noodle and kick kick kick around the pool for as long as I want! It's great! I'm so excited to see you finally enjoy it.
Eisley, I just took you really swimming for the first time last night (it's July...) and you did great. You didn't complain and you stayed in even after you were hungry and tired. We need to get you in more often so you won't be as afraid of the water as Kaybree was.

Eisley you are starting to get fun and we are seeing more of your personality. First of all, you are not a quiet shy little thing. You are a screamer! You scream all the time. It's an excited, happy scream but it is LOUD and not at all what people expect to come from you. You do it any time it's too quiet or someone isn't paying enough attention to you or if someone is just trying to make you laugh--it works, but it's loud. It sometimes drives your dad crazy because it's pretty ear shattering.
We're still working on rolling over. I've come to realize my girls are not early crawlers or walkers or early at anything really. That's ok. You're still normal. At this point I know you can roll over, you do it sometimes, you just don't want to. Tummy time is not your favorite so you've gotten pretty good at rolling from your tummy to your back. You sleep on your side, which is just so cute. You have the chunkiest little thighs so to see them roll over just makes me smile.

Kaybree you are communicating so well! You still say things like "I wanna hold you" when you mean you want to be picked up. And the way you pronounce "ice cream" like "hie keem" makes me smile. You're always telling me what to do. I probably shouldn't laugh and smile when you do but it's adorable to have a two year old tell you to "sit down" or "stay" or come on." You do it with actions too, grabbing my hand or holding up a hand or pointing a finger. Hilarious.
Some other funny things you say: "It's too hot." You got this from me. I tell you it's too hot when you'd rather play in the car than get out and go inside. Now you say it whenever I'm taking too long walking from the babysitter's door to the car.
"Come on!" You say this to your pretend phone when it's not working well. Just like Daddy does with his real phone.
"I like-a..." You like-a cookies and pickles and Dudley. The way you say it is just so cute! Your dad does this thing with you where he wants you to show with your hands how much you like something. He was asking you the other night "How much do you love Daddy?" And you'd do your hands and then he'd say "How much do you love Mommy?" And you'd do your hands. Then he said "How much do you love Eisley?" and you gasped a little and said "Oh, I like-a Eisley!" Adorable!

We're also getting close to potty training. I tried it for one weekend and it went well but then we got lazy and it all fell apart. I've learned you can't ease into potty training. it's all or nothing. So in a week or two I'll go all in and see how we do.

So different

The older you get the more your different personalities are coming out. It's so fun! Kaybree has always wanted to be just like all the big girls she sees. You want to do what everyone else does and you fit right in! You go with the flow very well but you do your best to lead--while following. I know that doesn't make a ton of sense but basically you're the leader of the crowd. You follow everyone else but you don't let anyone step on you. You know you're the cutest thing around and you flaunt it a little bit. You pretend to be shy (because that's the cool thing to do) but you're excited to tell everyone all about your boo boos or the puppies you saw at the mall or anything else going on in your life. This week you started preschool and you were so excited. As soon as we got there you followed Teagan right inside, waving and calling goodbye to me as you went. No hesitation. You know what to do and you do it. You're attending Montessori House in Lehi f...

My biggest challenge

I’m a writer by trade. I’ve always wanted to be a writer. I love to put my feelings into words. Yet, in the last month, I’ve been having a very difficult time vocalizing what’s happening in my life. It’s not because it’s been sad or difficult or anything like that. It’s mostly because there is someone new in my life who I care very deeply for who I feel this deep need to protect. I want to protect his identity, his story, his life. I don’t want to overstep any boundaries or crush any trust. I recognize the life he has lived has not been easy and so I tread lightly on this relationship we’ve built. But honestly—it’s a fantastic relationship. He’s an amazing kid. I’ve been asked to write a blog post for an organization that helps recruit foster parents about the first few weeks of being a foster parent. I’m having difficulty deciding what to write. I feel like anything I write about my case probably won’t apply to their case so it’s not very helpful. I keep writing drafts and then...

Careers

"So I've got a friend, who I met at Frys. He's an older guy. He's got a car he wants to give me and soon he's starting a business so when I'm 18 and a half or 19 I think I'm going to move out and move in with him and work for him." "Doing what?" "I don't really know but he's going to have this business." "OK. Well, good luck with that. Get it in writing and get a title for the car." I walked away just shaking my head. Silently I thought "At least he didn't tell me he's going to become a rapper. He might as well though... A couple hours later I talked with him again. "OK, so I've been texting him and finding out more about this job." "OK." "So he's going to be a rapper. And he says we'll find something for me to do, something I'm good at. Something that will make me $1,000 a day and I can probably start doing it from home--maybe finding new beats online....
